Mazapán

Mazapán is a fun nostalgic delicacy that every Mexican household has tried. I would always play a game on who can open the packet without breaking it. I have many recipes using mazapán as the key star ingredient but this one always impresses and it’s so easy

1 cup unsalted peanuts

1/2 cup powdered sugar (add more for sweetness)

Combine the peanuts and powdered sugar in a food processor.

Whirl for about a minute, constantly scraping the corners to ensure sugar gets incorporated.

You’ll notice that after about 3 minutes or 3 whirls the peanut oil starts to separate making it darker and grainier.

Once consistency is achieved use a desired mold (I use an old protein powder scooper) and pack tightly.

Because the oil has begun to separate from the peanut combining with the sugar this makes the candy stick together when pressed. Carefully remove by tapping it with your finger and repeat the process.

I used frosting to garnish the mazapán with that iconic rose. But you can also top with fruits, chocolate syrup or plain.
